The Art of Running a Successful IACUC Meeting
Melissa Lewis
You're running overtime. Important issues haven't been raised (much less settled). The discussion keeps veering off on tangents. Members are interrupting each other, withdrawing, squirming, nit-picking. Sound familiar? There's hope. Armed with a few basic truths about human nature, knowledge of common meeting traps and a handful of simple tricks, your IACUC meetings can be efficient, smooth and - dare we say - enjoyable? In this session you'll enjoy seeing your peers demonstrate common IACUC meeting problems along with techniques for solving them.

2:00 PMProtocol Review Challenges
Cindy M. Hoorn
This session will put even experienced IACUC members to the test, as we review and discuss some real-life scenarios that may sound all too familiar! Your 'CEO' will officially (and temporarily) appoint you to an IACUC, where you will be provided with some IACUC puzzlers that will require all of your collective knowledge, experience and wisdom to resolve. Are you up to the challenge?

3:00 PMBREAK

3:15 PMRegulatory Updates / Question & Answer Period

Local and regional representatives from AAALAC - JR Haywood and USDA - Peter R. Kirsten, Kurt Hammel, will provide news and updates for each agency, as well as answer questions from the audience. In addition, Molly Greene will provide a perspective on what is new at OLAW.

4:30 PMCONCLUSION

MISMR members strongly support humane animal study in research. We hope that likeminded citizens will join us in working for rational public policy that assures the continued appropriate use of animals in the course of good science.
