BENNETT J. COHEN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD


David M. Lawson, Ph.D., Wayne State University
Dr. Lawson has served in the capacity of educator and researcher and is currently serving as Interim Chair of the Dept. of Physiology at Wayne State University. His ability to teach physiology at all levels is well recognized among his colleagues and students. In 1999, Dr. Lawson redirected his research focus on animal care and environment in the experimental setting. He was funded for this work by the NIH for studies on "Housing enrichment and experimental manipulation of rats" as well as "Light, environmental enrichment and stress" in rats. He has been an active volunteer and supporter of MISMR's goals, and has served as a member of the board.

Jack A. Bley, Jr., D.V.M.
Over the past 38 years Dr. Bley has combined two professions: military officer and veterinarian. As an officer he achieved rank commensurate with responsibilities in leadership, management, training and teamwork of both line and support units in locations all around the world. As a veterinarian he achieved success in general veterinary practice then specialized in laboratory animal medicine while pursuing interests in veterinary preventive medicine and teaching students and professionals at all levels of experience. Dr. Bley is currently an instructor with the Biology Faculty at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

   
 
MISMR members strongly support humane animal study in research. We hope that likeminded citizens will join us in working for rational public policy that assures the continued appropriate use of animals in the course of good science.
