Legislative Advocacy Day

Reaching out to our elected officials in March, MISMR members and supporters convened at the State Capitol in Lansing. The purpose of the day was to introduce our organization to the 148 senators and representatives who make up our State legislators. Our goal in line with our mission is to establish MISMR as a resource on public policy issues that affect biomedical research, especially research using animals.

Personal visits were made to a majority of the legislative offices. A number of requests for additional information were requested from several of the legislators and staff.

Legislative day 1998 was deemed a success by all who participated. The public relations committee will continue to keep advocating for biomedical research.

Year-end Stats…

  • Over 1,100 hits on MISMR homepage since June 1997
  • Homepage generated over 450 requests for additional information via e-mail
  • Over 7,600 pieces of literature mailed
  • Over 100 volunteers dedicated their time to promote MISMR educational programs

MISMR members strongly support humane animal study in research. We hope that likeminded citizens will join us in working for rational public policy that assures the continued appropriate use of animals in the course of good science.
